1,001 Nominations For Bestpets Puppy & Co
More than 1,000 Bestpets Local customers have given Alfie the Dog, Maurice the Guinea Pig and Ozzy the Budgie a new home.

The three cuddly characters are among six mascots unveiled by the pet product wholesaler as part of its 12-month Bestpets Local Loyalty Collector’s Scheme.

Over the past six months, shoppers have had loyalty cards stamped each time they spend £20 or more in store. Those collecting eight stamps within a two-month period receive a free toy, with a new character available every other month. Over 1,000 of the mascots have now been given away.

Bestpets has also given animal lovers the chance to name each mascot online. Shoppers who propose the winning monikers, chosen by a panel of Bestpets experts, receive a full set of all six toys.

The lucky winners to-date are:

  • Mary Ingle from Brighouse, West Yorkshire, and Lynne Butler of Halifax, West Yorkshire, who both named the Bestpets Puppy Alfie in July-August 2012
  • Julie Southcott from Okehampton, Devon who named the Bestpets Guinea Pig Maurice in September-October last year
  • And Amy Sanky from Atherton, Greater Manchester, for naming the Bestpets Budgie Ozzy in November-December.

The fourth character in the collection – the Bestpets Cat – is available in-store now until the end of February. An as yet anonymous fish and hound will complete the set in March-April and May-June respectively. Shoppers can suggest names for the remaining Bestpets characters at www.best-pets.co.uk/nameme

Jason Parrett, Pet Product Buyer at Bestpets, says: “We want to reward our loyal customers and make them feel part of what we're doing. It's proved an enormous success so far. The response from shoppers both in-store and online has been really positive and I'm sure the same will be true of the next half of the campaign."
