Tests show that Zoflora® kills the Covid-19 virus
Leading household disinfectant manufactured by Thornton & Ross kills strain of coronavirus that causes Covid-19.

Zoflora®, the UK’s leading disinfectant manufactured by Thornton & Ross (T&R), part of the STADA group, has been proved to kill SARS-CoV-2, the strain of coronavirus that causes the COVID-19 illness.

Laboratory tests confirm that Zoflora® can eradicate coronaviruses, including the COVID-19 virus (SARS-CoV-2). This conforms to the latest British standard BS EN14476:2013+A2:2019 when used at 1:40 dilution with a five-minute contact time, which relates to the virucidal activity of chemical disinfectants.

Dr Nigel Cooper, director of development at T&R, said: “Given the efficacy of Zoflora® against other coronaviruses, we were quite certain that Zoflora® would have virucidal activity against the COVID-19 virus. On receipt of the official data, we can confirm that Zoflora® does kill the SARS-CoV-2 strain of the virus that has significantly impacted the world we live in today.

As recommended by worldwide health organisations, the best way to protect against coronavirus is through regular hand washing, social distancing and disinfection. Using a proven disinfectant such as Zoflora® on regularly touched surfaces at home, in places of education and in the workplace, is one way to help protect yourself and those you care about.”

Establishing a hygiene routine with some simple, everyday preventative steps can help control bacteria and viruses in the home or workplace. Wiping down desks, keyboards, light switches and surfaces, as well as doors, handles and kitchen and bathroom surfaces, will reduce the breeding of bacteria and viruses in areas that come into contact with various people throughout the day.

As concentrated multipurpose disinfectant, Zoflora® has been used in households for almost 100 years to kill 99.9% of viruses and bacteria, while eliminating odours. It was initially developed when one of the founding partners of T&R, Nathan Ross, spotted a gap in the market for a pleasant smelling disinfectant as an alternative to carbolic acid.

Zoflora® is also effective against other common household bacteria including e.coli, salmonella, listeria, and viruses such as influenza type A (H1N1), human herpes virus, rotavirus and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

Zoflora® is made by T&R, part of the STADA Group, that develops, manufactures and supplies a wide range of branded over-the-counter medicines, dermatological solutions and other healthcare and hygiene products at its headquarters in Huddersfield.

Earlier this year, a new multi-million-pound production line was installed to enable the company to increase production by 100% to keep up with rising demand. A build of this size and complexity would usually take around 18 months to complete; however, the new bottling and filling line was up and running in just eight months.
